Hi katerine albarellos, first of all, what computer operating system are you using?as S W mentioned, if it used for mac, you need to use disk utility to format it to either exfat or macos extended (journaled). If there is any current files in your external hdd, be sure to backup or make a copy, as re configuring the hdd partition, will result in data loss.to be able to use for windows, what i had done is to use disk utility to spit into two partition, one is using macos extended (journaled) for time machine, misc and another exfat, which windows can write to it.
Thank you MicIntel for your Reply, but unfortunately it did not work.Have downloaded the batch from provided link and followed instruction but my WD Passport HDD still unseen.Thank you againHarith Al Hinai. Email address is removed for privacy.Sorry MicIntel I did not include a feedback on my last reply, I was disappointed that this issue is taking so long to solve, anywhere here is the feedback:1. Running the DLGDIAG (as Administrator) and on the top window, I can see my IDE Hard Drives (I have two)2. As for USB, I can see four USB items (Generic – SD/MMC, Generic – Compact Flash, Generic – SM/xD-Picture and Generic – MS/MS-Pro) and these al showing Not Available3. WD External Passport 0730 not detected here4. Could not do anything further.Thank you again. Found a post on WD forum with a response from MS that states that corrupted or non-existant system files cause the problem.
Further, the fix is to runsfc at the command prompt. Here is my step-by-step. find the command prompt app. Right-click and Run as Administrator, to avoid a problem later in this process. RUN c:windowssystem32sfc/scannowIt is slow. Took me 20 minutesThe log at the end said 'somefiles could not be repaired'However, it may have repaired or replaced the critcal fileMy Passport has now worked for 5 hours, whereas before it would only work for 5-10 minutes at a timeLET ME KNOW IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU20 hours later. Apparently this fix was only temporary, or the drive worked well by happenstance. Hey,I had the simillar issue.
I made lots of research but no one has the exact solution. That is why I wanted to write my solution. I solved mine with the frimware update.According to my research, WD My Passport 0730 is not working on Windows 8 and 8.1 with USB 3.0 port. But if you convert it to USB 2.0 with an USB Hub, or if you plug it using USB 2.0 port to your PC, it will work without any problem. So, plug your external using USB 2.0 and backup your WD 0730. After that, go to WD website and get the universal frimware updater.
Download it, update WD 0730 frimware using the tool. After the frimware update, you must be able to use your WD 0730 with USB 3.0 port.Good luck.
