Not having a yoke &/or rudder petals for my Vista FSX set-up, I too asked the same questions that you raised and came to the initial conclusion that an adapter wouldn't get me the results I wanted. After some further research and encouragement from my son I decided to modify the yoke & rudder petals to work thru a USB port.It was a fun project! As a retired electrical engineer I really enjoyed the challenge. Fortunately I had an old Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick (USB) that had a broken pot so I was able to cross the various components of these devices successfully into the original CH Virtual Pilot Pro yoke package. I added two additional switches to get all 12 switch outputs (the yoke only had 10) plus I modified one of the two 4-way switches on the yoke and made it into a HAT switch for POV.I now fly via the 'modified' yoke and rudder pedals and I must say that it has dramatically changed my flight simulation experience.
